Featuring a superb combination of wonderful bluegrass music and delicious Cajun cooking, The Market Place Theatre’s Cajun Bluegrass Nights are the hottest ticket in town. ‘The Knotty Pine String Band’ formed in 1994 with a view to bringing bluegrass music to an audience, which really knew very little about the music and its origins. The band consists of Seamus McGurgan on banjo, dobro and acoustic guitar, Tony Hutchinson on vocals and rhythm guitar, Aidan McGale on vocals and bass and Declan O’Kane on fiddle and mandolin. Superb vocal harmonies are an integral part of the band. Since formation the band has recorded many albums including ‘Blood, Sweat And Bluegrass’, ‘Against The Grain’ and ‘Whisky Before Breakfast’. The band also have a strong country roots influence with songs from the likes of John Prine, Kristofferson, Steve Goodman and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and also like to take popular songs and give them a bluegrass twist. Old standards such as ‘Duelling Banjos’ and ‘The Orange Blossom’ are part of the programme. With dinner discover delicious Cajun cooking, one of the hottest global cuisines – not just hot but delicious. Jerk chicken, meat jambalaya and a whole lot more.
